It’s amazing the gifts people have to share! Thanks to everyone who came to Creative Spirit’s second service, Spirit Slam, last night and made it such a special event. It was a sweet service with a lot of talent courageously shared. I was inspired and moved in many ways and others tell me they felt the same.
We wrote our own liturgy, on the spot, as a community for the Call to Worship as people told 1 sentence stories of God’s goodness. Folks had drums and maracas and tambourines going (no one went for the harmonicas this week!) while one of Sean’s bandmates, Chad, joined him to sing a beautiful song Chad had written.
A room full of adults had a great time during the service with markers and pencils and crayons depicting their spiritual journey, and they were beautiful pictures!
Then, there was the POWERFUL POETRY! Due to a lot of sickness, we had 3 families who planned to be there but couldn’t come and several of our poets called in the 24 hours before the service to offer their regrets because they were either sick (2 had lost their voice), had been called into work, or had to go out of town for a family situation.
BUT, a couple sent poetry in for me to read for them and 4 of our folks last night were willing to read or perform some of their writings on the spot, some from memory, with the community “applauding” by waving the dance streamers I claim to have bought for the kids…but we love them, too!!!
It was GREAT and we definitely need to do it again. We may even repeat this in February (next meeting is Feb. 23rd!) if Cedar Fever is finally settling down and folks are getting well! I may work myself out of a job if we keep this up, because we needed no preacher last night. The community had powerful messages of their own to share that definitely PREACHED!
Thanks again for those who came, those who are giving, and those who are praying, and look for more developments soon!! God is doing a neat, quirky, and wonderful thing. And I can’t wait to see what she/he does next!
